Okay, so um, just let me start again. Here’s the step you need: open Settings and choose Export.

6 words struck out · 2.4 s removed
Illustration, not a screen capture. Press the button to see the cut undone.

Deleting words is faster than scrubbing a timeline. Here’s exactly how a cut works, how to undo it and how to keep joins smooth.

Steps

  1. 1

    Start from the tidy

After recording, Automatic tidy removes ums, false starts, repeats and long pauses. Choose Review to check its cuts, or Use original to start untouched.

  2. 2

    Open Script

Open Script. Your words are laid out like a document, with filler words underlined.

  3. 3

    Find the passage

Read for repeated starts, “um, just” moments and detours. They’re easier to spot in words than on a waveform.

  4. 4

    Select and delete

Select the words you don’t want and delete them. The matching moment leaves the picture and the sound.

  5. 5

    Preview the join

Play from just before the cut to just after it. Make sure no screen action the viewer needs was removed.

  6. 6

    Undo or redo if needed

One Undo restores the passage. Redo reapplies the cut.

Correcting words vs cutting video

Fixing a name or typo in the text only changes the written words and captions. It never changes your recorded voice or the video’s timing. To remove part of the recording, delete the words.

Keep cuts natural

  • Leave a beat of silence around each cut.
  • Cut whole phrases rather than single words where you can.
  • Save the project, reopen it and check your edits again before exporting.
